Local Food Hero is Born!
Press Release 23/02/10
In the midst of the most serious recession for more than 60 years local chef and entrepreneur, Gary Andrews-Harrod, bravely set up his own business - New Forest Bakeries. That step has been rewarded with a series of prestigious awards at the recent Great Hampshire Sausage and Pie Competition proving the best way to a judge’s heart is through their stomach!
New Forest Bakeries’ products picked up firsts in three categories at the largest competition of its kind in the county organised by Hampshire Fare. Veteran entrants, Prices Farm Foods Ltd are the local meat suppliers to New Forest Bakeries and Gary entered the competition this year under their name.
Gary’s Game Pie won the judges over to be awarded a gold medal in the Cold Eating Pie category, with his Pork Pie, Pork & Pickle Pie and Steak & Stilton Pie all picking up Bronze Medals. The New Forest Pasty, made to Gary’s own secret recipe, also impressed the judges and pulled in a fourth Bronze medal of the day, topping off a successful first year of trading for the Breamore-based business.
Gary said “I’m thrilled with the result and very proud to have been awarded these prizes against some very strong competition. It’s great that a new, local business has been successful in difficult economic times and I’m confident New Forest Bakeries will only go from strength to strength so keep a look out for the pies!”
